Review and Reaction from Marvel’s Jessica Jones

Holy hell. I started this show last night and am on episode 6. I can’t stop binging this addictive masterpiece. Going into this show, I knew very little… Actually, nothing… About the story of Jessica Jones. I’ve looked up little bits and pieces along the way to better understand some of the backstory but this is all new to me and I am in love.

I mean, Jessica herself is one badass piece of work. Whiskey, sass, and leather jackets? Oh hell yeah, that is a girl after my own heart. In fact, I find myself relating a lot to her. Dealing with psycho creeps,  affinity for late nights and cheap whiskey, and a dismal sense of attempting to get her life together but a give ’em hell attitude?  It’s like looking in a mirror.

I also love David Tennant as Killgrave. I don’t think there’s been a more perfect villain since Heath Ledger as the Joker… And that is saying a LOT coming out of me. He’s the perfect balance of “suave and sexy” and ” Jesus Christ you make my skin crawl, you’re disgusting” It’s face to say that I will never look at the 10th doctor ever again… But, I regret nothing. That casting job was absolutely perfect.

As far as supporting characters go, Malcolm is by far my  favorite. Mostly because, who doesn’t love a hopeless junkie who wants to clean up his act and starts being super protective of the only person on the planet who he can potentially call a friend? I loved the way he stood up to Luke in episode 5 (I think it was 5,) and said “I’ll kick your ass!” Even though clearly, he knew he didn’t stand a chance against the bulletproof man.  I love how invested in Jessica’s life that Malcolm is. I feel like he is one of the purest characters in the series. I love the character development surrounding him.

As far as supporting characters go, most of the rest of them annoy me, but I think that’s supposed to be the perspective. Like seeing everything through the oh so independant eyes of Jessica Jones… Luke seems brutish and a cliche sweet/sensitive tough guy. Patsy is the best friend who tries a little too hard and can be hypocritical. Jerry is just a bitch who will later side with Killgrave… Maybe I’m just cynical, actually I probably am. Thus, another reason I feel I relate to Jessica.

“I’m not going to talk about by shitty story, because there is always somebody who has had it worse, someone’s life who was ruined worse.” – Jessica Jones

And as Luke describes her:
“A hard drinking, short fused, mess of a woman.”

I’ll drink to that, figuratively or literally, I’ll let you decide.

Can’t wait to continue this series, and I am doing so as we speak.
